Wake County Public Health Center

The new Public Health Center and associated 5-level parking deck relocate and consolidate public health services near the County’s human services building. The County’s previous Public Health Center on Sunnybrook Road outlived its usefulness due to population growth, changes in how service is delivered, and an inflexible building layout.

The O’Brien Atkins team, which included LS3P and Guidian Consulting, programmed and designed a new state-of-the-art public health building. The new facility consolidates services under one roof, has internal group adjacencies for a logical flow of services, space flexibility especially as it relates to future changes in service delivery, and the consideration of changes in how Medicare/Medicaid is delivered, all in order to best serve both users and providers.

The county-owned site is along Swinburne Street near Falstaff Road. The property, on the north end, is home to the Public Health Center and its associated parking deck. On the south end is the site of the County’s Health and Human Services Department’s Swinburne building, which is the primary location for county human services.

Major functions housed in the new facility include Child Health Services, Women’s Health, Adult Medical Services, TB Services, Immunization, Foreign Travel & Refugee Health Services, Dental Services, WIC Services, Pharmacy, Lab, and Administrative Offices.
