Chemistry Sciences Laboratory

Conceived as a flagship for the Chemistry Department’s distinguished program of innovative research, O’Brien Atkins designed a facility which supports a collaborative environment that anticipates continued scientific and intellectual achievement.

Designed to attract and retain top faculty and students from around the world, the Chemistry Sciences Laboratory has more than 60 flexible laboratories organized by research clusters that focus on emerging research in analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, materials, organic, and physical chemistry. An advanced imaging suite, state of the art nuclear magnetic resonance facility, laser labs and electronics shops support these endeavors. A 150 seminar space provides an intimate place for collegial conversation and the exchange of ideas.

The character of new chemistry building, located on the University’s main campus, reconciles the historical signatures of the Jacobean Style with the scale and formal characteristics of the facility’s immediate modernist context.
